Trapani and Surroundings

an area to be discovered

The Trapani area, with its valleys, its vineyards, and its salt pans, is a place of considerable charm.
Among the most beautiful pearls of the area you will find Erice, a medieval village perched between sea and sky on a cliff, walking along its alleys which will give you a journey through time and a breathtaking view of the Egadi Islands and Monte Cofano.
Nearby you will find San Vito Lo Capo, a town famous for its beautiful beach and the Cous Cous Fest, a food and wine festival that celebrates one of the area’s typical dishes, and which every year brings together chefs from all corners of the globe. This is an excellent stop to enjoy a good plate of fish couscous or, in the less touristy seasons, take a regenerating walk with your dog on the immense and wonderful beach.

What to Do

Through nature and history

Near the charming town of Castellamare del Golfo, however, you can take a dip in the sea together with your 4-legged friend. In fact, here you will find a beautiful free beach for dogs, about 250 meters long. The beach borders a small freshwater stream where you can rinse off your 4-legged friend at the end of your beach day.

A few steps from Castellammare you can enjoy one of the most scenic areas in all of Sicily: Segesta. Lost in the countryside of Trapani, with its temple and its theater it will give you one of the most beautiful and evocative images of your trip to Sicily.
And if you are still hungry for history and archaeology, a further stop in Selinunte archaeological park is a must, which will leave you with an indelible memory with its 270 hectares in which 2,700 years of history alternate with temples, houses, streets, walls , and ports, with breathtaking views of the sea and dunes.

A special mention must be given to the Belice area, both for its enchanting natural beauty and for its tragic history. Yet the towns have become a place of inspiration for many artists, the ruins of Belice have managed to combine art, music and cinema and if you go to visit them you will understand why. The old Gibellina old shape today has become the Cretto di Burri, a contemporary work of art in which the rubble has been cemented to crystallize the streets and alleys of the old city.
More in Poggioreale ruins, known as the “ghost city”, where the buildings have remained intact, and one can see the development of the city very easily, recognize what remains of the churches and the town hall, the noble palaces and the small shops.
