Palermo
Palermo, dog in tow
Walking through the alleys of Palermo historic center and admiring the monuments of the Arab-Norman Itinerary, or the baroque and Art Nouveau facades of churches and buildings, and then relaxing in one of the wonderful gardens spread through the city, will make your holiday memorable. The artistic masterpieces that you can visit in your holiday dog in tow are numerous, such as the cathedral garden, the Zisa park, the fountain in Piazza Pretoria, the ancient Vuccirìa watering hole, the square in front of the Massimo theatre, the Quattro Canti of the city, and the Ponte dell’Ammiraglio.
Then you can enjoy the seventeenth-century park of Villa Trabia or the garden of Villa Giulia, where you can walk with your dog on a leash.
Also, Palermo has the largest public walking area in Italy, with its 5,000 mq, inside the Uditore Park.
Of notable interest is the promenade along the Foro Italico seafront, a huge green space close to the sea on the border of one of the oldest districts of the city, La Kalsa, where within a few steps you will also find the Oratorio dei Bianchi, the Spasimo and Piazza Magione.
You can also go on excursions to the Favorita Park or within the Barcarello-Capo Gallo Nature Reserve which splits Palermo in two gulfs.
As well, if you want to leave the chaos of the city, nothing better than an excursion to the Serre della Pizzuta, between the area of Piana degli Albanesi and Santa Cristina Gela, where you can also enjoy the beauty of the lake and taste magnificent cannoli.
Naturally, after walking through alleys or reserves, it will be a must to stop to savor the renowned Palermo cuisine; for that, you can find plenty of pet-friendly restaurants and places where you can come with your 4-legged friend.
